Materials of this chapter were published in Gins, M.S., Kononkov, P.F., Zlotnikov, A.K., Zlotnikov, K.M. (2005) Application of biopesticide Albit for reduction of nitrates accumulation and yield increase of lettuce in greenhouses. Gavrish. Nr. 1 p.16-19.

Influence of Albit on lettuce was examined in trials of All-Russia Institute of Vegetable Selection and Seed Breeding on lettuce varieties Svetlana, Novogodniy, Kucheryavets gribovskiy, and Moskovskiy parnikovyy both in field (2001-2003) and in greenhouse (2004) conditions. Independently of the way of lettuce growing, Albit demonstrated growth stimulating activity on this culture. Averagely, according to results of trials, treatment with Albit increased yield of lettuce leaves by 230 kg/m² (12.7% over control).

Besides increase of green biomass yield, Albit increases turgor, improves quality and marketability, increases average lettuce head weight and content of ascorbic acid in leaves, decreases content of nitrates, shifts vitamin C/nitrates ratio towards safe values for human health. Ability of Albit to improve lettuce yield quality is especially pronounced under greenhouse conditions. In trials on lettuce, effectiveness of Albit was not inferior to that of standard formulation based on epibrassinolide.

Treatment of lettuce should be performed accordingly to general application recommendations for vegetables.
