Materials used in this chapter were published in book Biopesticide Albit for increasing yields and protection of agricultures against diseases, A.K. Zlotnikov, Ed. Prof. À. Melkumova. All-Russia Institute of Plant Protection, Russia, 2006.

Application of Albit on field and greenhouse flowers:

  • provokes earlier and abundant blossoming;
  • accelerates opening of flowers by 3-15 days;
  • increases duration of blossoming by 4-35 days (up to 1.5-2.5 times over control);
  • increases number of flowers per plant;
  • improves decorative quality of flowers (increases yield of top quality flowers by 10-15%);
  • increases plant resistance to diseases.

Due to influence of Albit, plant cells increases synthesis of chlorophyll and antioxidants that leads to more bright and rich coloration of leaves and flowers.

Positive influence of Albit was demonstrated on many flowers (roses, gladioluses, pinks, cyclamens, Kaffir lily, amaryllis, violets, primula, etc.) and confirmed by expert conclusion of All-Russia Institute of Agrochemistry (2005).

Important features of Albit are induction of blossoming, acceleration of opening of flowers, providing of more simultaneous blossoming, increase of number of flowers per plant. Induction of blossoming due to Albit treatment was shown for wide range of plant species; however flowers and decorative cultures demonstrated it most spectacularly. It is well known that watering of indoor flowers (geranium, primula, amaryllis, violets, azalea and others) with Albit solution considerably increases duration and intensity of blossoming. For example, Kaffir lily (Clivia miniata) in the head office of Albit LLC blossoms during major portion of winter, spring and summer, that is far out of the typical blossoming period from January to April (Fig. 48).

Here are two other examples of beneficial influence of Albit on flowers:

  • Influence of Albit on gladioluses (Gladiolus sp.) was examined in All-Russia Institute of Vegetable Selection and Seed Breeding. Gladioluses var. Klimens were grown in open ground conditions. Distance between rows was 40 cm, between plants in rows was 30 cm. Plot (5 m of lenght) consisted of 3 rows with flowers; plot area was 7.5 m2 (0.00075 hectare). Treatment with Albit solution (twice per vegetation, 70 ml/hectare) was carried out with hand sprinkler. In result of Albit spraying, general blossoming duration increased from 10 to 13 days, flowers was bigger and of higher quality;

  • Tests on Albit-treated roses var. Gloria Day, carried out by the same institute also demonstrated increase of yield of top quality flowers approx. by 10%. Treatment with Albit retarded development of powdery mildew on Rose shrubs and increased average blossoming longevity from 32 to 37 days.

In both variants, treated plants exhibited more bright coloration of leaves and flowers than untreated ones.

Application recommendations. It is recommended to perform 2-5 foliar sprayings of flowers: 1st one at the stage of budding and next ones - every following 2 weeks interval. Recommended application rate of Albit is 60-70 ml/hectare, or 600-1000 L/hectare of working solution. Cost of treatment is 132-154 roubles (5.28-6.16 USD). Treatment with Albit may be combined with watering; Albit solution conc. 1 ml/10 L (approx. 1/3 of teaspoon per 10 L bucket) used for watering should also get onto the plant leaves. The same solution may be used for root and extra root fertilizing, drip irrigation, saturation of soil mixes. Albit of indicated concentration may also be added to solutions of chemical fertilizers and pesticides used for scheduled treatments.
